Planted on the Ground

plant on the ground
When God puts me in the ground He doesn’t bury me, but plants me. I may accumulate dust and dirt under the ground, but my potential is being unleashed, and will be revealed for all to see in due time, for the creation is eagerly awaiting the revelation of God’s children (Romans 8:19).

I may suffer setbacks and disappointments (in the world’s opinion) because I love God, yet God is thinking how best He may honour me. He is carefully cultivating and pruning his me as His cultivar. I am as a young shoot. God wants me to be a strong tree so that I can provide a shade to others from the scorching heat of life’s troubles. He wants my fruit to comfort the weeping hearts and strengthen the feeble minds. The world may treat me as a scumbag, but I’ll just laugh and say to myself, “They don’t understand…” Joseph found himself in a pit but God was planting him to be a prime minister. He could say afterwards, “God turned into good what you meant for evil, for he brought me to this high position I have today so that I could save the lives of many people” (Genesis 50:20).

Where does God plant me?

In the ground. Amid the inconveniences of life. Most people don’t want that. They always want to be honoured by men. They love all the gists going round about them; they desire to be in the headlines. But God calls those who will obey Him to a secret place so that he can make them into a wonder the world cannot recover from. Why does he do this? So that they can be free from every distraction and the sympathy of men. He brings them to experiences they don’t understand; He allows Satan to buffet them so that they may have grit and become strong bulwarks (though Satan wants to destroy them, God circumvents his plans to accomplish what He wants). This is how they may be built up and solidified. They are the strong pillars the world is waiting for.

Encouragement for the Discouraged

As the tree is not planted in the air –though it places less demands on the tree — but on the ground, so am I planted where a demand has to be placed on my potential, on the ground. Otherwise how would my potentials be refined. The more I allow God to plant me deep in the ground; the taller I grow, the stronger I am and the more fruits I bear. O how I love the secret place. I may be mocked and sidelined because I have refused to compromise my integrity before men. I will not be discouraged. God is planting me. I will take comfort in what he has said because He loves me. He has said, “I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out — plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.”(Jer 29:11, MSG)

Because you have honoured him, He’ll definitely honour you

  1. This is nourishing. Hmmn!! Planted as a seed(without much noise) by the gracious hand of God in hope, but harvested with much joy and noise as fruits. I think the greatest thanks belongs to Him that spared dared to plant and tend. Thanks sir for this soft, pure and compelling words.

    1. Yes and amen. We have a seed in us whose life needs to be experienced by others. Except a seed is buried under the ground, it exists alone and cannot satisfy anyone. Its relevance is seen when it comes up again, albeit with more fruits and seeds.
